From Ambleside to Consett

Last Friday I finished work for the Summer. It is always a good day when you have a few weeks off work. We started the holidays with a weekend away in the Lake District. We had a very nice few days at Rydal Hall, just outside Ambleside. The weather was exceptional and we were blessed with good company. Saturday morning involved a gentle walk into the village. When you are walking in high temperatures you take everything gently. We came home after dinner on Sunday. Well worth a visit if you have the time to spare.
We are going on the Summer vacation very shortly. This year we are planning on taking the caravan to Luxembourg. We are going to be staying for three weeks. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us. The week so far has involved lots of washing and ironing to make sure we have enough clothes to take with us. As the Boss has managed to break her arm guess who is doing all the washing and ironing?
I found out that a person I follow on Twitter is going to visit some friends in Consett. The least I could do was put some things together to give them an idea of what to expect.

Consett is ideally  situated for visiting a range of different places. For those new to the area and with a day to spare you can not go wrong with Beamish. A fine day is the best way to enjoy.

If the weather is fine them enjoy a walk around the Consett area.

If you have time then a trip into Durham City is worth doing.

The Lindisfarne Gospels are currently on display at Durham Cathedral.

As for beaches, the best web site i could find for all things sandy in the North East is this one. Enjoy.

  1. What a brilliant page! Thanks so much for putting it together :)
Its great to see the town coming back to life after the closure of the mines and the devastating loss of employment - who'd have thought a store like Tesco could bring so much life and financial opportunities back to a town.

I'd heard about Beamish so thanks for the link, its definitely on our itinerary of places to visit along with the beaches AND Durham Cathedral (I'd forgotten about that :)).
Have you thought about setting up your own tourist information business?

Thanks Richard, this is really helpful,

    Diane :)
